The will depend on what you would to experience from a class and your personal circumstances. Here is a brief overview of the different class types.
Yoga is a practice that originated in India and involves the combination of movement, breath, spirituality and so much more. Classes can be really different depending on which style and teacher you practice with. There are classes that are more restful, active and anywhere in-between. We have a full list of class descriptions here but yoga can be wonderful at connecting you with your body and breath. Movement that encourages mindfulness, rest as well as lots of other benefits from practicing reguarly.
Pilates is an exercise practice that focuses on isolating different parts of the body to build strength, body awareness, mobility and core strength. Mat Pilates is a body weight style practice (sometimes using props) and Reformer Pilates uses the reformer apparatus to add resistance and weight to the pilates practice. -
Great question. That can depend very much on your body, experiences and preferences but here is a medium length answer.
With our Yoga classes all class styles are beginner friendly, except for Vinyasa. Vinyasa is a bit stronger and requires more coordination. If you’re someone who has both you might not mind jumping into one of these classes straight away. If you’re not sure we recommend starting with any of our other styles. All mat Pilates & Reformer Pilates classes are mixed ability. A similar level of advice as above is applicable for our pilates classes, we have beginners courses for all disciplines. if you enjoy a more thorough learning environment with lots of chat and an engaging learning atmosphere please consider coming along to one of these first. If you’re an enthusiastic self starter let our teacher know you’re new when you arrive (10 minutes early for the tour). If you’re coming along to Reformer we also recommend coming to a Slow Reformer class first as these are a bit more spacious than our regular Reformer Classes.

Yoga is as much a spiritual practice as a physical practice. There are lots of benefits to coming to yoga clases, including supporting mental health, mindfulness, increased strength and mobility. These aren’t the only (or even most important) reasons to practice (just some of them). At our studio we believe that honouring yoga in the West is at the heart of our classes. We do our best to share the roots of yoga in a Western Yoga studio (one of many).
Pilates is a much more modern practice that is ultimately intelligent and isolated exercise.
Both practices will support our minds and physical bodies and offer a beautiful way to support oneself. Which one (or combination) you decide to opt for will really come down to which one calls you most and which classes you enjoy the most. We would highly encourage you to use the intro offers to help you figure that out.
-
Mat pilates will typically use your body weight as resistance (or some props like magic circles or pilates balls). The reformer machine offers increased resistance with springs and straps/pulleys (and sometimes weights).
They are both wonderful, one isn’t better than the other but if you enjoy one you may well enjoy both! -
We’re excited to meet you. If you’re new to the studio do make sure to purchase one of the intro offers, they’re a bit cheaper as an opportunity for you to try classes out and find out which instructors are a good fit for you personally.
We do lock our doors when we begin class, so make sure you arrive early for your first class.Do let your teacher know you’re new and we’ll make sure to look after you. Do please flag any injuries or considerations so we can best look after you.
A reminder that we never want you to push through anything that doesn’t feel right. Our classes will always encourage you to rest or scale movement up or down but this is your open invitation (and reminder) that nobody knows your body better than you. Please ALWAYS listen to the best instructor in classes (yourself).
Intro offers for our classes
We offer two Intro offers, one for Yoga & mat Pilates and another for Reformer Pilates. You are more than welcome to purchase both, but we would recommend doing one at a time as they have their own expiry dates, just to make sure you have enough time to use all the classes up (unless you are a very keen bean).
