Lorraine Livingstone

She/her

After coming into contact with her first yoga experience, Lorraine felt like her world had changed for the better. It was the beginning of a new journey, learning to respect the spiritual aspect of her well-being as well as the physical. Lorraine started to practice yoga 2-3 times a week noticing how it calmed her mind, gave focus and made her appreciate the smaller things, while strengthening her body and improving flexibility.

Whilst travelling the world, a chance encounter with a fellow backpacker led Lorraine to 200 hour teacher training in Rishikesh, India in January 2015. Lorraine's time in India and the 200 hour YTT changed her in ways she could never have imagined. Lorraine describes the benefits of a daily asana and meditation practice as incredible, improving both her physical and mental wellbeing. This new outlook on life also gave her the confidence to leave a long career in corporate finance.

Lorraine has continued to further her studies in yoga and in April 2017 completed 50 Hours Yin Yoga teacher training with Sarah Lo, who has been endorsed by Sarah Powers.  In May 2019 Lorraine went back to India to complete her 300 hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga styles. The training focused on Elemental yoga according to the 5 Elements in both Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Lorraine teaches many styles of yoga therefore her classes are accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability or background.  Her Vinyasa classes are woven with theme and intention, to inspire and transform. They are creative and intelligently sequenced, blending together mindful movement that is strengthening, dynamic, and fun.  Yin Classes place a strong focus on meridian theory and mindfulness. As Lorraine is also a trained massage therapist, massage balls are often used in class to further aid myofascial release and stimulate acupressure points. Lorraine believes in a functional approach to yoga, therefore although alignment direction is provided in all classes; she encourages students to listen to their bodies and do what they feel is appropriate and safe.

Jasmine Brand-Williamson

She/her

Despite being surrounded by yoga from a young age, it took her many years to connect with the practice on a deeper level. Like many, she began practicing regularly when life outside became challenging. Sweating it out at hot yoga became the best kind of medicine.

She finished her initial teacher training in 2017 and has since taught classes in Edinburgh, London, Sri Lanka and Glasgow. In her flow classes, she incorporates an element of self exploration encouraging students to find freedom through movement.

Her time in Sri Lanka taught her to reflect and slow down, she fell in love with yin, restorative yoga and meditation whilst there. Her nature is to jump from one distraction to the next and she is learning to practice stillness. She aims to hold space for those who might need the same through classes, womxn’s workshops, cacao ceremonies and retreats.

Her invitation is for you to meet yourself exactly where you are, just as you are.

Anna Hodgart

She/her

I am a yoga teacher and theatre producer/programmer based in the Southside of Glasgow. I started practicing yoga as a teenager and dipped in and out of the practice over the years until I encountered Vinyasa flow and the ball really dropped. I was hooked by the journey, both mental and physical, that the classes would take me on. I completed my 200 hour training in Vinyasa flow in 2019 and since then have taught at a wide range of community spaces in the southside - as well as on the rooftop garden of the tenement block I live in.

I'm committed to deconstructing barriers in my teaching, striving to be as accessible as possible to folks who might feel alienated or excluded from yoga spaces. And to decolonise my teaching and practice so I can properly honour and pay tribute to the South Asian heritage and history of this incredible practice. I am continuing to train and study with many wonderful teachers who are provoking, inspiring and hold me accountable to these goals.

I'm deeply indebted to them. Studio 70 has been a huge influence on me as a yoga practitioner and in my journey to training as a teacher so it's incredibly special for me to join the teaching team and to get to practice with the wonderful Studio 70 community!

Sam Gill

He/him

I took my first yoga class almost 11 years ago as I knew that it would help with some of my injuries and improve my flexibility but I did not expect it to have such a profound effect on my mind. The body-breath-mind connection that is maintained throughout the yoga practice gives me a deep calming feeling that is very hard to replicate and it is part of the reason why I fell in love with yoga.

My passion for martial arts lead me to yoga because I was looking for a way to help my body move and recover better for my next martial arts class. Practicing both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and yoga has made me a more confident, calm, motivated, determined person and helped me become who I am today, feeling much better in my body and mind. The yoga practice has also helped me to understand and recognize negative thought patterns I sometimes fall into and become more accepting of who I am as a person.

One of the most beneficial things I've learned from yoga and been able to apply day-to-day and in martial arts training is the ability to control my breath and stay calm while in some pretty stressful situations, both physically and mentally. When we manage to control our breath while under stress we can think and act more clearly and efficiently.
I believe that with a consistent yoga practice, we can all experience better performance, improved health, and a greater peace of mind.

Liberty Cheesman

She/They

Liberty is a Southsider, adorer of nature and birthing / postnatal doula!

They have trained in both multi-style (200hr) and holistic yoga (300hr) in India. Their practice is influenced by Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin. However, Liberty’s main focus is always on well-being and the relationship between mind & body. Liberty’s training in holistic yoga means always encouraging individuals to work with their unique selves. Believing that one of the key benefits we can take from yoga, is being able to listen and respond to our continually evolving needs, both mentally and physically.

Liberty likes to take a playful approach to yoga, seeing it as an opportunity to bring a sense of openness and exploration. Their classes seek to use the body and breath to connect inward. No matter how dynamic the flow, or strong the pose, Liberty always considers the ultimate advantage of yoga, as the opportunity to connect with the breath and steady our thoughts.

Although they are aware that the world of yoga can sometimes feel daunting and impenetrable, Liberty passionately believes that there is a yoga practice out there for everyone. Therefore, Liberty always seeks to make classes as accessible as possible, seeking to encourage and nurture yoga practices that are as individual and unique as we are."

Becky Catterson

She/her

Becky spent the start of her 20’s at art school & then working in the TV and Film industry as a prop buyer within the art department. Whilst working in this role Becky always felt she was neglecting my body & it’s basic needs (drinking enough water, eating well & exercising regularly). Having used Pilates as a tool to strengthen her body, improve awareness of movement & for self-care, Becky decided during the pandemic to shift her hobby & turn it into a career. The depth of connection & activation in her first Pilates class opened the door to a special kind of physical awareness in her body.

In October 2020 Becky started the Level 3 Matwork Pilates course at Body Control Pilates. The course focused intensively on the precision of the Pilates repertoire, the bodies anatomy and the skill of teaching Pilates. The more she learnt about Pilates the stronger she felt that this was a career jump that was meant for her. Learning so much about the body & helping others with theirs is a big passion for Becky.

“I feel it can bring a great deal of power and strength to someone. I am able to help people who haven’t been able to look at their own reflection feel connected to themselves again, working on mobilising their body and improving their posture.

I see Pilates as the ultimate self care as you take time to connect with your body, strengthen your body and mind, learn about your anatomy and breath and finally helping your body as it ages. We all have a body so I feel anyone should feel the right to come to a class. All of my clients should feel comfortable and seen.  My classes mobilise your entire body in all planes of movement. We focus on stretching and lengthening, as well as working on building strength, balance and stamina. A great way to release tension and increase mobility after a busy week and to help focus our mind and body on our movement.”

Yvonne Halliday

She/her

Yvonne has spent almost 20 years teaching different styles of movement and dance to all levels and ages, from 3 to 83, alongside her day job working for a national performing arts organisation. During the pandemic in 2020/21 Yvonne added another string to her bow in completing her 200 hour vinyasa yoga teacher training with Alice Gray, after ten years of personal practice. Passionate about movement, Yvonne believes in the benefits of yoga for everyone - whether through a dynamic vinyasa flow or an introspective restorative slow-down.

Since qualifying, Yvonne has continued her CPD with additional trainings in Yin & Restorative Yoga and Advanced Anatomy. Her classes focus on cultivating balance in every sense of the word – physical, mental, and emotional – to guide you in finding connection on and off the mat. Expect creatively constructed flows that encourage you to find what feels best in the present moment.

Julia Clarke

She/her

Julia Clarke is a yoga teacher and writer who lives in her hometown of Glasgow. She has been teaching yoga since 2008 and is the author of the book Restorative Yoga for Beginners. She is also an Ayurvedic Practitioner, with a master's degree in Maharishi Ayurveda.

Julia primarily teaches Vinyasa, Restorative and Yin Yoga styles. She lived in the US for nearly 20 years and during that time she owned a yoga studio in the Rocky Mountains, made wine in Missouri, worked as a radio presenter in Vermont and Boston and a music promoter in New York City.

She has trained with many great yoga teachers and earned 200 hours in Hatha Yoga at Integral Yoga Institute in New York, 300 hours in Prana Flow with Shiva Rea, Restorative Yoga with Shannon Paige and Yin Yoga with Corina Benner.

When she's not teaching yoga, Julia is a writer for Advnture.com which sees her spending her days exploring the mountains on foot, bike and belay, then writing about it. On the mat, she's a champion for using yoga and Ayurveda as a means to recharge and enjoy life to the fullest, and believes strongly in sustainability in yoga as well as in life.

Tally Kerr

She/her

Tally has been a Southsider since 2018 and loves this community! She has been teaching yoga since 2020 after completing a 200 hour training in Vinyasa with Yoga Therapies in Newcastle. But this style didn't resonate completly, as sometimes she wanted a more active practice and sometimes more restorative. After learning about cycle awareness things clicked, and now her practice focuses on aligning yoga to the cycles of the year, the moon and the menstrual cycle.

She has since completed trainings specifically in women's yoga with Roots to Rise, Yin yoga at Kali Collective, and hands on assists at Merchant City Yoga. Her classes are fluid, playful and creative, and emphasise what movements feel like rather than what they look like. In her classes expect plenty of options so you can adapt the practice to what you need on the day, all important tea breaks, and to not take yourself too seriously.

Laura González

She/her

It took a long time for Laura to join a yoga class but once Rosina Bonsu introduced her to the Ashtanga Primary Series, she never looked back. With just one session she was hooked! A few years later, in 2015, she met Kia Naddermier and began to practice pranayama daily. The combination of physical posture work and the breath changed her life, decreasing stress, improving her sleep quality and her stamina. Apart from learning from Rosina (her teacher until February 2020) and Kia, Laura also studies with RoseAnn Maclean, and Sudhir Tiwari. She has over 15 years of experience as a mover, as she is a performance artist and an Athenaeum Research Fellow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has been an art teacher for many years, including at The Glasgow School of Art and Transart Institute. These experiences have made her sensitive to the inner workings of the body, whether anatomical, energetic or emotional.

Laura completed her Classical Yoga School teacher training in 2017. She has studied yin yoga with Gem Maryam and adjustments with David Swenson. She is a qualified pranayama teacher in the Kaivalyadham lineage. She learns Indian scriptures and philosophy with James Boag and Sanskrit and Vedic chanting with Lucy Crisfield. Her classes work on a complete yoga, one that encompasses body, mind and breath, nourishing them all and awakening our spiritual sense. Although she teaches a variety of forms, her passions are a combination of assisted yoga practice (Mysore style, where teacher and student form an individual relation and the teachings are guided by the practitioner) and pranayama. They both have in common a feeling of delight, a body that invites the breath, a centred mind and gratitude for the practice itself.

Robyn Carroll

She/her

Robyn's fascination with movement began as a child - she attended ballet classes and loved learning about how malleable the human body is.

She attended her first yoga class as a teenager and found it... tremendously dull! She wanted to move fast and found staying in a posture for any length of time mentally challenging (never mind lying still in Savasana). Years later, she found yoga again, and something shifted. It became a special practice, and she craved time on the mat. She trained with Alice Gray and hopes to help students cultivate a balance of strength and flexibility (physically and mentally) on and off the mat. She likes creating down-to-earth, playful and explorative classes.

She began practising Pilates as a teenager and noticed a newfound sense of connection to her body. A few years later she discovered barre classes (a fusion of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training) and quickly fell in love. She's been doing Pilates and barre consistently for years, and completed level 3 Pilates training in 2023, at Studio70. She has a modern take with elements of barre and yoga sprinkled in. She likes to challenge students whilst respecting the autonomy of everyone in the room - options to slow down and take modifications are always welcome.

As a long-time member, Robyn is delighted to be teaching at Studio70. At first, it was a strange transition going from student to teacher, but she quickly adapted and feels at ease in her new role.

Jason Thomas

He/him

With a background in gymnastics, Jason first discovered the Pilates method in the late 1990's whilst living in California. His belief in this revolutionary fitness method led him to train with industry leaders (including Paul McLinden, PDTC, Royal Academy of Dance and Siri Galliano of Live Art Pilates, Beverly Hills) before co-founding Brighton and Hove's first classical Pilates studio, Ocean Wave Pilates in 2002.

His pursuit of continuing education in the field inspired Jason to gain qualification with the Body Control Pilates Association in 2007, achieving Level 3 Pilates certification with the Register of Exercise Professionals. During his 20+ years of teaching, Jason has co-presented Masterclass workshops to Pilates instructors around the world, providing classical Pilates apparatus training during residencies in Argentina, Thailand, Australia, and Germany. He is a former guest lecturer at the University of Chichester's Department of Dance, having set up the University's first classical Pilates studio and instructed MFA Dance students in advanced Pilates matwork. Most recently, Jason presented Pilates workshops at retreats organised by holiday experts Yoga Explorers, teaching classes poolside at the Tigmi Retreat in Marrakech and the 5-star eco-resort Prana del Mar on the Mexican Pacific coast.

Jason's teaching style has been described as approachable, upbeat, and engaging, bringing both his experience and enthusiasm for teaching the Pilates method to each of his classes.

Kristy Falconer

She/her

Kristy started going to Pilates regularly to try and find some relief from chronic pain. Not only did it help with the pain but it also made her realise the importance of the mind-body connection. With a consistent practise she began to feel stronger both physically and mentally. By having that time to really focus on her body and breath she found herself honouring her emotions more, which helped her connect with a more authentic self and cultivate inner strength.

In 2023 she completed her YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates and is now passionate about helping others feel good in their bodies and in their minds. She hopes that those in her class can take what they learn on the mat and bring it into every area of their life.

Fabrizio (Fab) Medinelli

He/him

When Fab was a young(er) man it would of been hard for him to believe that he’d end up being a Pilates teacher! He hated exercise and had an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle. When the shift happened for Fab he moved into listing weights and fell in love with movement and then later on, Pilates.

Fab is a qualified as a Pilates teacher with Body Control Pilates in London in January 2022, and enjoys sharing a strong and resilient class. While making it appropriate for all levels of ability and knowledge. Helping to build resilient and mobile bodies is one of his passions within Pilates.

Expect a health level of knowledge around the practice of Pilates, a focus on the power of breath when moving and a joyful (and probably very funny) class as Fab brings his positive nature, and FUN to all of his classes.

Rohese Devereux Taylor

She/her

A former newspaper journalist and trans-Pacific sailor, Rohese is a doula, birth educator and yoga teacher. Having her own personal yoga practice since her 20s, she completed her 400hr intensive teacher training in the summer of 2014.

During her own pandemic pregnancy Rohese continued to practice yoga and found it to be a keystone in her preparation for birth as well as keeping her anchored during early parenthood. After the birth of her daughter, and a transformative birth experience, she trained as a doula and co-created, and continues to teach, antenatal education for Amma Birth Companions, a charity that provides birth support to marginalised women and birthing people in Glasgow.

As a fat, neurodivergent yoga teacher, Rohese is keen to encourage folk into yoga spaces who might not at first feel comfortable. She strives to be anti-oppressive, inclusive and mindful of her own privilege.

Nervous system regulation, intuitive movement and allowing the wisdom of the body to be the guide are the pillars of her practice and teaching style. There is no greater authority on our bodies than ourselves and she hopes to support people to a greater connection with their own.
