1. What has been your biggest lesson from 2020?

2020 has been a year of uncertainty because COVID-19 is new and none of us have had the experience of living through a pandemic. The first thing I've learned is not to predict when it will end and try to make plans based on this. This applies to both my professional and personal life. I've noticed that my mental health feels much better when I let go of expectations and the things that I can't control. It feels much more empowering to focus on the things that I can control and develop in my life and this has led to a much more positive frame of mind. It's been an emotional rollercoaster but I'm beginning to feel much more at peace with the whole situation.

2. What’s one thing you’ll do once the pandemic is over?

Big hugs all round!

3. How have you tapped into your creativity this year?

At times my energy levels were low and I discovered that reading the news, having expectations and trying to control unpredictable outcomes were zapping my creativity.

Instead, I've focused on what I can control and I've noticed this really helps me to feel inspired. I moved home a couple of months ago and I've really enjoyed decorating and dressing my new house. During lockdown, I had some pinterest boards on the go for each room which was a fun project. The final outcome also looks great!

My son is 2 and I've been finding ways to keep him occupied. We have been doing lots of arts and crafts and it doesn't cost a lot to do this. For example, we walked to the park along the street the other day to collect pine cones to make a Christmas centre piece. Like a lot of people, I have turned into a bit of a baker! I also enjoy taking photos of plants and flowers when I go on a walk.

4. What are you grateful for today?

Being loved and supported by family and friends. Having tools such as yoga and shamanism to support my personal well being and mental health.

Michelle is the co owner of Studio 70. She teaches Yin and Flow Yoga and also offers Shamanic Healing.
